Race With Veterans
Why This Race?
The Winchester VFW and American Legion are coordinating together to hosting our second annual event, “Race With Veterans,”
to take place June 25, 2022.
The goal of this event is to show support for Veterans and their families. Our event is designed to allow veterans and the community to get together and show support through Biking, Running, Walking, or Rucking around Winchester. Through this event we hope that any veteran, their families, or anyone supporting veterans, who are struggling or know someone struggling with Suicidal thoughts can be amongst people who are willing to help and listen. Exercise is one of the greatest activities to help combat Suicide and we hope through this event more people will get together to start their running, bicycling, walking, or rucking groups in and around our community.
Red Route
Led by Motorcyclists for Safety
Route Length: 13 Miles (may be done twice by bicyclists only)
Beginning at the Winchester Square by Marshalls, the route will proceed East before turning North off the square up South Hill Street.
They will proceed East onto Pearl Street before turning North on High Street. Upon meeting Jefferson Street, they will turn onto Jefferson Street/Coultas Road.
At the Intersection of Coultas Road and Coal Mine Road crossing Old Route 36, where Police Officers will control traffic for the participants to pass.
The Route will proceed West to Moore Road where it will proceed South. This portion will cross back over Old Route 36 where another Officer will help traffic to pass. This portion begins the longest straigh area of the path and will have one hill.
Where Moore Road ends at Newman Road where it will go back East. At the Intersection of Newman Road and the Glasgow Blacktop, there will a police officer to help with traffic.
The route will proceed North on the Glasgow Blacktop to VanMeter Lane where it will proceed East again until it meets the Lower Alsey Road and turn North.
From this intersection, the route will head to the finish line in Winchester.
Throughout the route will be water, rest areas, side by sides patrolling, and government groups slowing traffic.
White Route
Route Length: 10K
The White Route will begin on the square and proceed North on South Hill Street.
They will proceed East onto Pearl Street before turning North on High Street. Upon meeting Jefferson Street, they will turn onto Jefferson Street/Coultas Road.
At the Intersection of Coultas Road and Coal Mine Road at Old Route 36, participants will turn around and retrace their route back down Jefferson Street, crossing Main Street, going to Commercial Street.
The Route will proceed south on Commercial Street to West Cross Street where it will head East on West Cross Street.
Proceeding East on West Cross Street, the route will turn South again on South Elm Street proceedings by our local schools.
The route will proceed around school circle and head back to West Walker Street heading East.
Upon intersecting at South Mechanic Street, the route will proceed South until it meets South Main Street and go North.
Once on South Main Street, the route will go North intersecting back at the square.
Blue Route
Route Length: 2.2 Miles
The Blue Route will begin at the square and proceed North on South Hill where it will turn West on Pearl Street.
When Pearl Street intersects with North Main Street, the route will proceed North where it will meet West Jefferson Street and turn West.
The route will proceed to Commercial Street where it will turn South, crossing Cherry Street and meeting West Cross Street.
On West Cross, the route will turn East where it will then turn South on South Elm Street going by our local schools.
The route will proceed around school circle and head back to West Walker Street heading East.
Upon intersecting at South Mechanic Street, the route will proceed South until it meets South Main Street and go North.
Once on South Main Street, the route will go North intersecting back at the square.
